Jewel of a Little Theatre in Salem

Going to see live theater at the Salem Theatre Company is like having your own set of very talented friends who like to act just for you.  The setting is so intimate, with just 48 seats, that you cannot help but feel that way.

However, the comparison ends there, because the acting is always done so professionally, as is everything about this great little jewel of a theater.  I do hope you will check it out, and let me know how you enjoy it.

Here is their most recent press release, which has all of the pertinent information about the production that is opening tomorrow:

Salem Theatre Company presents
Painting Churches by Tina Howe

Set on Beacon Hill, retired and famed poet Gardner Church and his wife Fanny are preparing to move permanently to their summer cottage on Cape CodGardner slips in and out of senility, as Fanny valiantly tries to keep them both afloat.  Their daughter, Mags – a painter on the verge of artistic celebrity – has come home to help them with the move and, she hopes, to paint her parents’ portrait, to come to terms with them and they with her.

Fannie and Gardner Church (Hazel Grenham and Brian Casey) play around at their daughter Mags (Katie Donovan) expense in a scene from STC’s Painting Churches which opens May 12 and runs through June 4.

I hope to see you here, since I got to enjoy the final dress rehearsal tonight!  Don't forget that the Tavern at the Hawthorne is open form 11 to 11 for food service, so if you are hungry or thirsty after the production, the hotel is a great place to stop on the way home.
