Going Green

Going Green is all the rage, everywhere one turns. We know that continuing to utilize our historic buildings is one of the "greenest" thing we can do, and so staying at the historic Hawthorne Hotel is one of the "greenest" things you can do when it comes to choosing a place to stay in Salem, MA.

If you follow this blog you will already know that we recently installed all new lamps in all of the guest rooms. The old ones worked fine, but were starting to show some signs of their age, and we felt our guests deserved a fresh look in our guest rooms.

You will be happy to know that NONE of the old lamps went to a landfill -- they were all adopted by our staff members, and a local thrift store that funds a food pantry took the rest. So we recycled, helped our staff members, and helped feed some people who need help.

In addition, we bought all new light bulbs for those new lamps, and the new ones are compact florescent bulbs, which are a "greener" alternative. The photo above is the cases of new bulbs arriving in the building.

There are more "Green" initiatives on the horizon for us here at the Hawthorne Hotel, and we will be sure to tell you about them as they happen.

I hope to see you here.

Juli
