Every once in awhile things happen so fast and furiously around here that something slips between the cracks for me. This past early November was of those times for me when I completely forgot to "blog" about one of our terrific Employees of the Month, Allison Austin. Allison was recognized on November 3 for her work during October.
Allison is one of our very best servers. She gets many, many complimentary guest comment cards, and has a number of customers who ask for her by name -- certainly the highest praise a server can receive.
During the month of October our Tavern is the busiest place, but Allison never misses a beat. She always treats each customer as though that table is her only priority, and is always quick to offer her personal suggestions to make sure that particular table of guests has the best possible visit to Salem and the Hawthorne Hotel.
The managers of the hotel usually gather together and go to our Employee of the Month's work area to surprise the honoree with their award. On this day Allison was working in the Tavern, and the Ballroom had hosted a meeting with a panel discussion earlier. So we all lined up at the head table, and when Allison walked through the Ballroom on her way to the Tavern from the kitchen where she had been doing some "side" work, we surprised her, microphones and all!
