Love Salem? Here is a Presentation for You!

Yet another wonderful thing to do in Salem -- this is such a happening community, with so many things to see and do.  One would never be bored here, for certain!  Not only with this be an enjoyable event, but you will also be supporting tourism in Salem at the same time.

A number organizations that promote tourism in Salem and the surrounding communities – including the Essex National Heritage Commission and the North of Boston Convention and Visitor Bureau –will be the beneficiaries of an upcoming fundraiser sponsored by Jim McAllister of Derby Square Tours.

The event, a “somewhat nostalgic” one-hour slide presentation by McAllister entitled “Love Song for Salem: A Visual Tribute” will be held on June 30 in the auditorium at the Salem Visitor Center on New Liberty Street .
McAllister calls the show “an impressionistic portrait of a place, a visual poem , a nostalgic time capsule containing almost than 300 images representing four seasons, five neighborhoods, and fifteen years (1978- 1993) of photographing.” There are images of sunsets and snowstorms, streetscapes and street people, walking malls and walking trails, and museums and mansions . Also featured are many past Salem event: sports celebrations, house tours and garden tours, concerts - and circuses - on the common, parades, museum openings, and, of course, Halloween “scenes.”

The majority of the photographs in the show were taken in the downtown business district, Salem Willows, Derby Street, the Salem Common, and the McIntire Historic District. But the people - among them familiar faces like the Cahill brothers , Laurie Cabot, Ted Buczko, Tony Salvo, ‘Sailor Bill,” Buddy Hobbs, and Jello the Clown – who appear come from all corners of the city.

There will be two showings of “Love Song for Salem: A Visual Tribute” on June 30th, at 5:30 and 7:30.
