We recently acquired this scan of the lobby of the Hawthorne Hotel, likely taken around 1955, when it was trying to be very "modern" instead of embracing its historic roots.
In the photo below you can see the same view. You will notice the balcony is gone. At some point another function room was built in between what were balconies overlooking the lobby to meet the demands of the function business here at the hotel. It was likely a very important change, since functions are such a key part of our business here at the hotel.
