Happy Anniversary to Our Favorite Movie Theater -- Cinema Salem!!

When Cinema Salem opened five years ago, I for one was very hopeful that they would make it.  Our local theater had been shuttered for awhile, and had gone through some bad times before that shuttering, so seeing it reopen was a happy moment.

Now five years later, it is still going (strong we hope) but all business is fragile, and depends on customers, so I write this blog post in both celebration of their anniversary, and in the hopes that it will continue to be part of the wonderful life that we all enjoy here in Salem.  To that end, if you have never attended a film at Cinema Salem, I would strongly urge you to check it out.  Even if the film doesn't fully engage you, their popcorn really is the best movie theater popcorn ANYWHERE!!

If you haven't been, please consider going.  If you have, please go again!  Just think, $5 for a first run movie!!

I hope to see you there, or here!

Juli

Here is their newsletter detailing what they are doing to celebrate their anniversary:

On the eve of our 5th Birthday (tomorrow, June 2), allow us to recount the ways in which CinemaSalem is wonderful (if we do say so ourselves). 1) Best popcorn anywhere, and with real butter on top; 2) Bright, clear projection on all films with in-focus presentation which has won a Disney-Pixar Projection Booth award; 3) Friendly, talented, helpful, and film-loving staff; 4) Monthly CinemaSalem Grants to support local nonprofits; 5) Best all-documentary film festival in America; 6) More films screened per year than any other local theater (except for AMC Liberty Tree, and we show 70% of their total despite the fact that they have 20 screens and we have four); 7) Presentation in both traditional 2D and new 3D format; 8) Affordable prices (for example, our weekend evening 3D adult ticket costs $3.75 less); 9) Mom and Baby Show every Monday morning; 10) The most incredibly affordable ticket pricing on our birthday!
As you might have read in the paper, tomorrow we're showing our appreciation for the hundreds of thousands of film lovers who've supported us over the past five years by offering special birthday pricing of only $5 per ticket for any film we show*, all day (and evening) tomorrow. Tell your friends and take advantage of this one-day special.
*The only exception is French Film Night, which is presented by Club Richelieu of Salem in the Screening Room at 7:30 tomorrow night. All the rest of our films (The Hangover Part II, Kung Fu Panda 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Cold Weather) are yours for five bucks!
But don't just come on our birthday; we'll be showing flicks all week, so here's the schedule.
Now Playing: Queen to Play (Joueuse) NR; Kung Fu Panda 2 (PG); The Hangover, Part II (R); and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (PG13)!
New this week in the Screening Room is Queen to Play (Joueuse) which the French Film Night crowd will love as much as the Seattle Times: "Sandrine Bonnaire beautifully captures her character's simmering intelligence and vague discontent; Kevin Kline, performing his entire role in French for the first time, again proves himself a master of the raised eyebrow." Another fan? Roger Ebert: "What I enjoyed was the way the film summons up the pure obsessive passion that chess stirs in some people."
Queen to Play will screen on Friday at (5:15), 7:40 and 10:00; Saturday at (12:00), (2:45), (5:15), 7:40 and 10:00; Sunday at (12:00), (2:45), (5:15) and 7:40; and Monday-Thursday at (5:15) and 7:40.
Based on the big crowds over the weekend, we're holding over the rest of our films. Here are the showtimes.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will screen Friday at (3:45), 6:45 and 9:40; Saturday at (12:30), (3:45), 6:45 and 9:40; Sunday at (12:30), (3:45) and 6:45; and Monday-Thursday at (4:00) and 6:45.
