Haunted Happenings Parade at the Hawthone Hotel

Last night the annual Salem Chamber of Commerce's Haunted Happenings Parade marched right by the Hawthorne Hotel once again. As usual, it was made up of traditional marching bands, floats, school groups, and lawn chair and trash can drill teams. However, Salem's parade always has that something extra, that makes coming to a parade in Salem special. This year we had a witches group doing a drill-team event with handmade brooms, and a witch in full regalia on a Segway. Here are some photos I snapped right outside our front door:

Marching bands.

Excited children.

Sports team winners.

Flag-bearers.

Segways.

Such cute little guys.

Our friends at FINZ made a great float.

The Phoenix School always goes all out.

This creepy character was delighting in scaring some of the little ones.

Many, many treats were distributed by the marchers.

I loved the very homemade entries.

This year we had a member of the Hawthorne Hotel Team as one of the honorees.  The theme of the event was "Honoring Those Who Serve" and certainly our chefs do serve a lot of people, often with little recognition of their efforts.  Our Chef Jennifer , seen in her Hell's Kitchen chef's jacket in the photo below, was one of the finalists in the most recent episode of that famous reality television show, earning her a place in last night's parade.

Will this young man be a contestant on some cooking show when he grows up?

The Beverly Lawn Chair Brigade doing their routine.

Honoring every possible profession that serves was this float's purpose.
Princess Kate

I hope you enjoy seeing just a few of the many entries in this two-hour long parade that kicked off our annual Haunted Happenings month here in Salem last night.

I hope to see you here,

Juli
