Updates and Things To Do in Salem and Essex County

1.  Due to the death of a dear friend and long-time customer of the Hawthorne Hotel, Norma Clark, we will be flying different flags than previously noted this Wednesday.  In her honor, we will fly the flags of Massachusetts and the United States of America.

2.  There will be an interesting, open-to-the-public event here at the Hawthorne Hotel sponsored by the Salem Common Neighborhood Association.  It will take place at 7 pm on Wednesday September 21, and is called:  Know thy Neighbors: Notable Salem Common Residents of Yesteryear, and is a lecture by local historian Jim McAllister. Tickets are $15 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the SCNA’s 2012 concerts of the Common.

3.  If you don't already know about ArtThrob, consider yourself informed.  This is a terrific local magazine produced by people who are passionate about the arts, right here in Salem.  The focus is local, and therefore this is an excellent way to both know more about cultural and other events taking place in Salem, as well as reading some first-rate journalism and seeing some terrific art and photography.  To subscribe on line, go to http://www.nsartthrob.com/ and you will have this excellent piece delivered right to your e-mail box on a monthly basis, as well as receiving weekly updates.

4.  There will be a Community Yard Sale on the Common next Saturday, September 24th starting at 9:00 am.  This is also sponsored by the Salem Common Neighborhood Association.

5.  Don't forget that this upcoming weekend is the second and final "Trails and Sails" weekend sponsored by the Essex National Heritage Area.  Here is a link:  http://www.essexheritage.org/ts/ to a wealth of FREE events taking place in Salem and in Essex County.

I hope to see you here, or somewhere in Salem, soon!

Juli
