Rocky Horror Picture Show at Cinema Salem

Since many of you might be particularly interested in this upcoming event on Friday, I thought I would share the details by posting Cinema Salem's newsletter for you right here.

Also of interest is a free screening at another theater of an interesting documentary by a local Salem friend.

Many people continually request The Rocky Horror Picture Show events at CinemaSalem, and if you're one of them, this is your lucky week. This Friday night, October 15 at midnight, we'll present The Tesaracte Players performing in tandem with the big screen projection of this classic cult film. Don't miss it!

We're holding over the whole schedule this week, except for in the Screening Room, where we'll present the sequel to "the most frightening film ever made", [Rec] 2, which gives us all the state-of-the-horror-art as realized by brilliant Spanish filmmakers. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune loves it: "The new film manages to retain the claustrophobic tension of the original while deftly juggling multiple viewpoints," as does the Los Angeles Times: "Unlike so many sequels, [REC] 2 builds nicely on the ideas introduced first time around; in particular, the nature and history of the disease, only touched on in the original, are explored much more fully here to chilling effect."

[Rec] 2 will screen Friday at (5:00), 7:30 and 9:45; Saturday at (12:30), (2:45), (5:00), 7:30 and 9:45; Sunday at (12:30), (2:45), (5:00) and 7:30; and Monday-Thursday at (5:00) and 7:30.

The Town is back for another week, representing that rare breed, an emotionally satisfying thriller, and includes the best-ever scene of an all-out shootout in Fenway Park, which is worth the price of admission by itself. Ben Affleck's masterpiece will screen on Friday at (4:40), 7:20 and 10:00; Saturday at (11:30 AM), (2:00), (4:40), 7:20 and 10:00; Sunday at (11:30 AM), (2:00), (4:40) and 7:20; and Monday-Thursday at (4:40) and 7:20 .

Also back is the beautiful 3D animated work of art, Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole, which will screen on Friday at (4:15 PM); Saturday and Sunday at (12:00) and (2:15); and Monday-Thursday at (4:15 PM).

About which film does the Associated Press write: "The rare sequel that feels not only relevant but necessary."? Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, of course, which also gleaned this rave from Roger Ebert: "It's an entertaining story about ambition, romance and predatory trading practices, but it seems more fascinated than angry. Is Stone suggesting this new reality has become embedded, and we're stuck with it?"

Wall Street 2 will screen on Friday at 6:45 and 9; Saturday at (4:00), 6:45 and 9:30; Sunday at (4:00) and 6:45; and Monday-Thursday at 6:45 PM.

Emma Stone shines in Easy A which will screen on Friday at (4:30), 7:00 and 9:00; Saturday at (12:15), (2:30), (4:30), 7:00 and 9:00; Sunday at (12:15), (2:30), (4:30) and 7:00; and Monday-Thursday at (4:30) and 7:00.

There's a great documentary premiering this week at the Studio Cinema in Belmont , Massachusetts at 7:00 pm (this is another great independent movie theater). Lost in Woonsocket introduces viewers to Normand Cartier. Living in a tent in the woods, suffering from addiction and estranged from his family for over 13 years, Cartier had all but given up hope of recovery. The film crew from the award winning A&E television series Random 1 found Cartier and offered him the chance for treatment, rehabilitation and a fresh start with his family. Originally slated to air on the television show, the resulting footage and concept proved much larger than any show could grasp. Lost in Woonsocket was born.

Brought to Boston through the efforts of our Salem Film Fest colleague, Matt Caruso, this film will engage anyone who loves documentary, and anyone who's struggled against the demons of addiction and found recovery.
