More Great Flicks at Cinema Salem

This past weekend I had the opportunity to see True Grit at CinemaSalem.  It was a terrific movie, and I am really glad I went.  You are in luck, if you want to see it there, because the newsletter from CinemaSalem that is copied below says that it will be playing for another week.

I am hoping to go see the Oscar-nominated shorts that will be playing here this week, since I think this is one of the things that CinemaSalem offers which is unique, and enjoyable both!

The Salem Film Fest website is up and awesome at www.SalemFilmFest.com, with full descriptions of the 31 documentaries we'll be showcasing, and easy ways to purchase tickets. My suggestion: buy an "All-Access Pass" which gets you more than $340 worth of films for only $100!

And finally, the Grammies probably got you in the mood for the really big awards show: The Academy Awards. We'd like you to be our guests at the Oscars this year at CinemaSalem in high definition for free. The show starts at 8 pm on Sunday, February 27. See you there!

Is that a sick lineup, or what?

Unknown looks like an intriguing international suspense thriller, starring Liam Neeson, January Jones, and Diane Kruger. Here's the synopsis: Dr. Martin Harris (Neeson) awakens after a car accident in Berlin to discover that his wife (Jones) suddenly doesn't recognize him and another man (Aidan Quinn) has assumed his identity. Ignored by disbelieving authorities and hunted by mysterious assassins, he finds himself alone, tired, and on the run. Aided by an unlikely ally (Kruger), Martin plunges headlong into a deadly mystery that will force him to question his sanity, his identity, and just how far he's willing to go to uncover the truth.

Unknown will screen on Friday at (4:45), 7:15 and 10:00; Saturday at (11:45 AM), (2:15), (4:45), 7:15 and 10:00; and Sunday-Thursday at (11:45 AM), (2:15), (4:45) and 7:15.

The Oscar Nominated Live-Action Shorts 2011 will screen on Friday at 7:00; and Saturday-Thursday at (2:45) and 7:00.

The phenomenal The King's Speech, which is also nominated for several Oscars, will screen on Friday at (4:15), 6:45 and 10:10; Saturday at (11:30 AM), (2:00), (4:30), 7:00 and 9:40; and Sunday-Thursday at (11:30 AM), (2:00), (4:30) and 7:00.

Also back is The Fighter (also nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture), which will screen on Friday at (5:00) and 9:50; Saturday at (12:00), (5:00) and 9:50; Sunday at (12:00) and (5:00); and Monday-Thursday at (5:00).

The Coen Brothers' True Grit will screen on Friday at 7:30 and Saturday-Thursday at (2:30) and 7:30.

Just in time for school vacation week comes The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which will screen Monday-Thursday only at noon. The Chicago Reader loves it: "The beguiling creature design -- from minotaur to dragon, sea serpent to one-footed dwarf -- heighten the illusion of a storybook coming alive."
